Harvest Moon Ceremony Reflection
“How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you? A place for you to go… a place of women, to help you learn the ways of women… A place where you were nurtured from an ancient flow, sustain you, steading you as you sought to become yourself.”
By Judith Duerk Circle of stones
“Learn the ways of women.” What does that mean? Is it to be passive, quiet, nurturing, studious, artistic, sensual beings. Is it to put others before ourselves? Does it mean to make ourselves ready to receive, so our needs will be met? Is that the mysterious feminine ways of attraction?
What about being bold, fierce and celebratory? Those are the qualities that personifiy the Nordic Goddess Freyja, to whom we dedicated our Harvest Moon ceremony.
Freyja stands for adventure, risk taking, boldness and celebration. According to legend Friday was named in her honor, the end of the work week, time for celebration. Freyja is a bold sensual Goddess, a trusting leader, with a joyful spirit. She nurtures by way of fun and teaches through action.
Last night was cold and wet. Our plan to gather at the beach on Harvest Moon was foiled by the weather. Instead, we chose the comfort of the Greenhouse. The decision to change the venue was not an easy one, given that we were dedicating our ceremony to the Goddess of boldness. I sought counsel from Marcy who lives on the beach. Her reply to my quandary was “Changing the venue at this time is pretty bold.” From her sage words I instantly knew that we would seek the comfort of the Greenhouse.

Our barefoot ritual was sensual and bold. Each woman became a leader and teacher then reversed her role and blindly trusted her partner. In this safe space the bold stories during circle speak were powerful.

May you celebrate the season and experience the subtle magic of Autumn.
