Enchanted April

La Nebbia Winery greets us with open arms—as dusk falls softly—under boughs of purple wisteria—reminding me of that line in Enchanted April: “To those who appreciate wisteria and sunshine”—We are here! Immense gift of ripe spring night. Our surroundings kiss us and we blush. Soft lush hills unfold in green waves—testament to the blessed recent rain. Fecund scent of earth fit to burst. Rambling roses pink and giddy. Somehow without having asked or feeling deserving I’ve arrived in a place so beautiful my body aches, breaks open—pastoral hush, sentimental rush

Sweet Leah places feathers in our hair—mine is blue with a tinge of yellow—sky with a streak of sun

I wonder who will take the largest electric blue feather—

Opening

We stand in a circle incanting our spirit ancestors.

With conch call and sacred words we bless each corner of the earth—north, east, south, west

We smudge and bless each other with fresh sage—I feel aura cleansed my every corpuscle smokes and releases up to the heavens

Lisa is an April baby—we circle round her, sing “Sha la ma, Sha la ma beta”—offer our blessings for her birth path—She gives us each a sea green rock—to cleanse and keep media at bay—giggling, we put the rocks in our bras, heart-close—to take out later by moonlight

Weave Dance

Holding hands, we make ourselves into two circles and knot ourselves up— “like a bridge over troubled waters”—winding serpentine and then unknotting—loosening—resurging into clean round whole

Our energy pours and merges; tumbles and surges—we are one knot; we are not other

Music plays gently on air—our bodies are songs without words

Circle time

Cool spring evening— the fire holds our warmth—around her core we sway

Tammy teaches us, graceful and sure

Spring is here and with it comes a sense of urgency—gone are the dreamy dormant days of wintering. Now is the time for action, for manifesting ethereal—Can you feel it—dream seeds sprout real.

Our goddess this spring eve is Maat—Egyptian goddess of fairness—who, upon death

weighs our hearts against a feather, and if the feather is lighter we must

rebirth and try again to live Light

“Hold a feather in your left palm and your heart in your right—

Now weigh which is heavier”

Sage Tammy reminds us—

“Spit happens”—everyone has her share of troubled waters—but it is criminal to go through this life with a heavy heart—So you keep moving through, bending on—continuing to create

Recipe for a Light Heart

Cleanse—release past anger and wounds

Be grateful—this lightens your load

Laugh—hard to hold a heavy heart while laughing

We practice her preach—

Cleanse

Purge pain on paper then

Throw our regret into the fire and watch it burn

Grateful

Look our moon sisters in eyes and tell of what beauty we find in the looking

This giving and receiving is only of women born

“Was it hard to receive your praise?”

Consecrate gratitude on paper— place this close to breast

Laugh

Tell jokes (even though most of us admit to being terrible joke tellers)—two of us share the first jokes we ever heard—jokes from childhood, recalled—several of us share past moments of embarrassment; now able to relish our own foibles

How did I arrive here?

I am immensely blessed— not since college have I felt able to open within a group –bare souled—naked I-ed—without fear of judgment—cradled in love, light—encircled by creative-force women

We are a palimpsest of generations and stories

A patchwork godly vibrant and ever-flowing

Incantatory

“Earth my Body ~ Water my Blood ~ Air my Breath ~ and Fire my Spirit”

The sound stops, but I keep moving

“The temple bell stops, but the sound keeps coming out of the flowers”

Departure

The Moon hides from us as we wane—but her glowing can be seen over the tips of hills

By the time I reach seaside/home,

She is full—“bald and wild”—sitting in the crook of cypress—watching over my inspired newborn
