Wheel of the Goddess

13 archetypes of the Divine Feminine

Introduction

For more than twenty years I have studied goddess mythology and gathered women in circle. In each gathering we focus on a particular goddess. Through storytelling, ritual, movement, and creative expression, we honor the qualities each goddess embodies and ask a simple question:

How is this energy alive in me?

Again and again, I have watched women recognize themselves in these ancient stories. I have witnessed women speak difficult truths with the steady presence of Maat. I have witnessed the nurturing presence of Brigid, the wisdom of Athena, the healing gifts of Ixchel, and the audacious laughter of Baubo.

Over time I noticed something else. Women rarely embody just one goddess. The same woman may call upon the courage of Artemis, the wisdom of Athena, and the abundance of Lakshmi all at the same time. These qualities rise when needed, often without conscious thought.

The goddesses are not simply figures from ancient mythology and folklore. They are living archetypes that continue to move through women’s lives today.

The thirteen archetypes in this book come from different cultures and traditions. Each represents a powerful facet of the divine feminine.

Through paint and poetry, I have distilled these divine feminine energies into thirteen archetypes of feminine becoming.

The poems seek the essence of each goddess. The paintings are symbolic rather than literal. Together they invite reflection and imagination.

Much like the circles that inspired this work, this book is an invitation.

Part learning.

Part remembering.

Part connecting with something that has been quietly waiting inside you to rise and be named.

As you turn these pages, I hope you recognize something of yourself.

Welcome.

Creatrix—Muse

I heard it—

a silent megaphone
guiding me all along.

The static cleared.

My Muse made contact.

I remembered.

Creatrix.

Lakshmi—Abundance

An infinite wellspring  of generosity.

There is peace at home.

Desire quieted,

lust rests here,

no need to wander.

souls nourished,

spirits satiated.

Here, even time ripens.

Sweet fruit in plenty,

hands filled

without asking—

without grasping.

Baubo—Audaciousness

That’s me—untamed, bold, hilarious.

Your small, careful rules

were suffocating me.

I tossed them off

and chose to embody

my untamed spirit.

Much more fun.

Ixchel—Medicine Woman

Song returns first as a hum.

Then as breath shared. Then as memory.

Their words are not loud. They settle into chant.

And where las mujeres weave together, war finds no doorway.

Maat—Witness

The scales wait.
