Artemis & her Tribe
The famous Goddess, Artemis, is known as the unerring archer, protector, midwife, and way-shower. After learning a heartbreaking lesson in humility she changed her vain ways, left her family and went to live in the forest with a tribe of magical Nymphs. The legend of Artemis speaks mainly about her extraordinary powers and family. Ancient text says little about her tribe of enlightened beings, other than to describe them as Wood Nymphs.
In order to keep the Goddess stories alive for future generations, we Moon Mothers dig deeper into the Goddess mythology and interpret it into modern language to bring better understanding for the women of the 21st century.
Artemis stood on the shoulders of divine feminine beings who lifted her, supported her and gave her the strength to firmly stand as a Goddess for eternity. These mythological spirits of nature, imagined as beautiful maidens inhabiting the forest, were more than Nymphs. They were profoundly wise Sagewomen who were too enlightened to live among the barbarians of ancient civilization. They were the protectors of the planet. They enjoyed relaxing by the river, dancing to the rhythm of the song bird symphony, and secretly helping lost travelers find their way out of the dark woods.
If the Story of Artemis was written today, the Nymphs would simply be named Source. Eternal Source of enlightenment, steady calmness, and courage. These Spirts are still alive and strong, waiting to be called upon, to assist one through the darkness.
On this powerful blood moon we Moon Mothers gathered at our new home for the first time. We dedicated our ceremony to Artemis and her tribe of magical beings. Embodying the power of Artemis and spirit of her Wood Nymph tribe, we blessed our new home and cast a dome of protection, via holy water, sage, drumming and chanting.
Thank you Mela & Eva for the photos.
